RAISED HANDS (2023)

Third Eye was a short-lived blacklight poster company, launched at the end of the 1960s by Allen and Roberta Bell Ehrlich. Based in midtown Manhattan, the company was primarily know for its partnership with Marvel comics to produce set of superhero blacklight posters and greeting cards for issued in 1971. Yet, till the company closed in 1974, it also produced some of the most psychedelic, colorful, and well designed blacklight posters of the era depicting everything from Biblical scenes to the geometric visuals often encountered during acid trips. Made from different elements from several different vintage Third Eye posters, this work is actually a relief made of progressive layers to create a sense of depth. The depiction is conceived as an awakening of awareness forming from the earth and extending to the sky. The frame is made from a reclaimed garden bench. The work can also be hung and includes the rechargeable overhead blacklight.
