Near Death Experiences (NDEs) are reports of an after-life that occur after the brain and sensory organs cease to function. Claims have been documented since the time of Plato; and some even speculate Paleolithic cave paintings depict similar scenes. Modern developments in emergency medicine, like defibrillators, have increased the number of NDEs particularly amongst cardiac arrest patients; and common to many of them is seeing a bright light followed by a welcoming from one’s deceased family members and friends. While scientists typically describe NDEs as just changes in brain chemistry, researchers are neither been able to fully dismissed the reality of NDEs nor explain away the stories of pre-cognition and a renewed sense of ease in the lives experiencers.
