This antique storage box, with cast iron handles, is wired to illuminate “Repose”, a painting by artist John Singer Sargent (American, 1856-1925). This casual character study contrasts the more formal portraiture Sargent was also doing at the time. The woman in repose is Sargent's niece, Rose–Marie Ormond Michel.
