Brass lanterns like this were originally used on cargo ships during the 1800’s and later reproductions were sold as souvenirs to commemorate particular fleets. This lantern illuminates an image of the Dumbbell Nebula, a cloud of gas and dust roughly 1,250 light years from Earth, but still visible with binoculars.
