Deck lights like this were originally used during WWII as signal-lights to communicate with other ships, as well as for other general purposes. This authentic WWII US Navy issued lamp includes a backlit image of New York City, taken by photograph Paul Strand (American, 1890-1976). Thru his images of everyday life across the Americas, Europe, and Africa, Strand was one of the early photographers who helped establish the medium as a legitimate art form during the early 20th century.
