Brass lanterns like this were originally used on cargo ships during the 1800’s and later sold as souvenirs to commemorate particular fleets. This lantern illuminates an image of NGC 1763, a cloud of gas and dust that emits a particularly wide spectrum light from the LMC (Large Magellanic Cloud) roughly 163,000 light years from Earth
