Deck lights like this were originally used during WWII as signal-lights to communicate with other ships, as well as for other general purposes. This authentic WWII US Navy issued lamp includes a backlit image of “L’oeil”, a 1932 color aquatint by artist René Magritte (Belgian, 1898-1967), depicting the eye of his wife, model, and muse, Georgette Berger. Magritte and Georgette first met as young teenagers and again later in their mid-twenties, when they were married.
