Deck lights like this were originally used during WWII as signal-lights to communicate with other ships, as well as for other general purposes. This authentic WWII US Navy issued lamp includes a backlit image of "The Great Wave Off Shore of Kanagawa", a print by artist Katsushika Hokusai (Japanese, 1760-1849). Due to his talent and skill at self-promotion, Hokusai was very popular during his time and this is his most famous print.
